"Gung Ho" means "work together" in Chinese. Helen Foster Snow coined the English use of the term "Gung Ho" after observing a Chinese industrial cooperative movement during the Second Sino-Japanese War, promoting it as a spirit of collaborative, enthusiastic teamwork.
Our exchange programs seek to equally honor and embody both cultural interpretations of the word by creating "enthusiastic" "work-together" programs
Gung Ho programs are unique for their deep emphasis on cross-cultural collaboration, pairing U.S. and Chinese students 1-to-1 in immersive, project-based experiences that foster real friendships and mutual understanding. Through outdoor adventures, language immersion, and sustainability leadership projects co-led by international experts, students work side-by-side to tackle real-world challenges in a spirit of shared purpose and global teamwork.
We offer both U.S.-based and China-based programs that unite American and Chinese students through immersive, bilingual experiences and 1-to-1 peer collaboration. Through strong partnerships with government agencies, non-profits, and business leaders, our programs combine outdoor adventure, cultural exchange, and real-world project work to build language skills, global leadership, and meaningful cross-cultural connections.
